Team Ghana heads to London for Owlypia global competition

A 52-member delegation from Galaxy International School yesterday departed Accra for the United Kingdom, to represent Ghana at the global round of the Owlypia International Competition, scheduled for June 14 to 20.
The delegation, made up of students, parents and faculty members, left the country over the weekend through the Kotoka International Airport and is led by the Principal of the school, Mr Jasur Domullojonov.
Hosted at the prestigious University of Westminster, the competition will bring together students from different parts of the world to compete in a series of academic and leadership-focused activities.
Speaking to the media prior to their departure in Accra yesterday , Mr Domullojonov explained that the students qualified for the global round after successfully progressing through online qualifying stages and a local round organised at the school’s campus earlier this year.
Owlypia is an international academic competition for students between the ages of nine and 18 years. It seeks to promote academic excellence, critical thinking and problem-solving through interdisciplinary learning.
Participants compete in five broad categories: Science and Technology, Literature and Culture, Social Sciences, Art and Design, and Economics and Business.
The competition also places emphasis on the development of leadership, teamwork and communication skills through activities such as debates, public speaking, research projects and collaborative challenges.
Galaxy International School said its participation in international academic programmes formed part of efforts to expose students to global learning opportunities and prepare them to become responsible and globally-minded leaders.
The school expressed confidence in the delegation and wished the students success as they represent Ghana on the international stage.
The participation of the students is expected to further showcase the growing contribution of Ghanaian schools to international academic excellence and youth development.
It also wished all the participating students success and best of luck.
