Tema Police impound truck with suspected narcotics, arrest two over bribery

The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying a large quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested two persons for attempted bribery.

The operation took place on February 15, 2026, at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the Head of Public Affairs for the Tema region, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, officers from the Regional Patrols Unit carried out an intelligence-led operation and stopped a Sinotruk tipper truck with registration number GN 993 14.

He explained that the vehicle was loaded with fertilizer sacks containing 3009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. He added that the driver abandoned the truck and fled on seeing the Police.

The vehicle and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters, while efforts continue to arrest the driver and confirm the ownership of the truck.

In a related development, he noted that on February 16, 2026, Victor Asigbey, aged 40, and Peter Asigbey, aged 35, were arrested at the Regional CID Office in Tema for attempting to bribe officers with GHS 150,000.

He stated that the suspects allegedly tried to influence the Police to release the impounded truck and the suspected drugs. He indicated that the money has been retained as evidence and that the two men remain in Police custody, assisting investigations.

He further assured the public of the Command’s commitment to fighting narcotic-related offences and upholding integrity.
