A 26-year-old trader, allegedly in possession of large quantities of cannabis has been arrested by the police at Avenor, in Accra.
The suspect, Daniel Ametepe, also known as Rasta, who was apprehended with 10 compressed slabs of leaves and 100 wrappers of the drugs was reported to have been in the drug business for the past six months.
The Nima Divisional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent (Chief Supt) William Daah confirmed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said on September 13, Ametepe was arrested at his kiosk at Avenor, following information to the police.
Chief Supt Daah said during interrogation suspect claimed ownership, and told the police he bought the drugs from someone in the Volta Region for sale to his customers in Accra.
He said Ametepe would soon be arraigned and charged for possession of narcotic drugs.
Chief Supt Daah said the drugs would be taken to the forensic laboratory for examination.
In another development, 16 drug addicts were also arrested by the police in a swoop at Nima and its environs, last week dawn.
Chief Supt Daah said the suspects, who have been granted police enquiry bail were caught red-handed smoking Indian hemp(wee) at Malata market, Nima gutter,Dumia Cinema and Kokomlemle, all suburbs of Accra.
Chief Supt Daah called on the public to collaborate with the police to clamp down on criminal activities.
