A retired business executive, Godwin Kwashie Anagbo, has admonished Ghanaians, especially those from the Volta Region, to promote peace, love, and unity instead of hatred during the celebration of festivals.
He said reports reaching him indicate that people were deliberately promoting hatred by destroying people’s farms, homes, and businesses without any justifiable cause, thereby tormenting tension.
Mr Anagbo, who was addressing some NDC party faithfuls and Hogbetsotso festival enthusiasts last Saturday in Accra, urged them to promote peace and development instead of destruction.
The octogenarian, who would not mention specific names, stated that hate speeches resembled those made between 1969 and 1972 by the late Victor Owusu, that Voltarians were inward-looking people.
He noted that such hate speeches during political rallies should never be allowed to fester because they could destroy the unity and purpose of the nation.
Mr Anagbo told the people that he believed Mr Owusu’s “curse” on the people of the Volta Region is still lingering.
“We need prayers together as Voltarians to reverse that supposed curse,” he stressed.
Again, he said Ghana’s first president, the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, axiom and slogan that “forward ever and backward never”, should be the guiding principles of love, development, and peace among the people of the Volta Region.
On the government’s successful fight against illegal mining (galamsey), Mr Anagbo rated the Mahama administration 90 per cent.
He said the re-possession of the nine forest reserves occupied by armed illegal miners was a stellar achievement.
Moreover, Mr Anagbo said the confiscation of over 650 excavators from illegal miners, and relocation of over 4,500 newly imported excavators from the Tema Harbour to Tsokpoli, was another success story.
He indicated that above all, the reclamation of destroyed lands and setting up legal co-operative community mining to create jobs for the youth would go a long way to curb the crime rate in the country.
