Passengers of VIP Jeoun Limited have expressed frustration over the company’s sudden increase in transport fares, describing the move as unfair and insensitive to customers’ financial challenges.
Speaking to The Ghanaian Times in Accra, Mrs. Eva Osei said, “I’m not surprised, but it’s frustrating. The cost of living is already high, and now transport fares are going up.” She added that she might have to reduce non-essential trips or seek alternative transport options.
Students are particularly affected. Ms. Elizabeth Oppong explained that as a student relying on public transport, the fare increase would significantly strain her budget and impact her business, since she frequently travels to buy goods. She appealed for VIP to consider student discounts to ease the financial burden.
Another passenger, Mr. James Okoh, noted the inconvenience of higher fares for his daily commute, saying he might need to leave home earlier or look for cheaper alternatives. He attributed the hike to Ghana’s economic challenges and urged the government to stabilise fuel prices and improve infrastructure to reduce transport costs in the long term.
Several passengers also called on VIP Jeoun Limited to improve its services, including punctuality and bus comfort, to ensure customers receive better value for their money.
The fare increase comes at a time when many passengers are already grappling with high living costs, making the hike a source of widespread concern.
