Volta Region’s growth in focus… as GIPC leads investment drive

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has held an investment roadshow in the Volta Region to identify the economic and investment potentials of the region for mapping and development aimed at accelerating growth.
The programme, the first of its kind, was on the theme: “Driving Local Investment – Unlocking Regional Potential: Mapping Opportunities and Mobilising Growth in the Volta Region for Economic Growth and Prosperity.”
The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, in a speech read on his behalf yesterday, stated that the event represented a significant advancement in a collective endeavour to bring investment closer to the populace.
This initiative, he said, demonstrated the government’s commitment to transforming the abundant potential of the regions into successful enterprises, thereby supporting the President’s economic reset agenda.
Mr Debrah further announced that the initiative was part of the government’s strategy to capitalise on the opportunities available across various districts and communities. He also praised the GIPC, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) for their involvement in the programme.
He described the Volta Region as an emerging engine of growth within a balanced, inclusive, and prosperous country, adding that the roadshow was a declaration that the country’s economic transformation would no longer be limited to a few selected cities.
The Board Chairman of the GIPC, Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, explained that the regional investment roadshow was aimed at identifying, documenting, and promoting investment at the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) across the regions.
Mr Oppong-Fosu said the government was advancing the Economic Volta Corridor as a strategic initiative under the flagship 24-hour economy and accelerated export development programme, noting that the Corridor placed the Volta Region at the centre of the country’s development.
The Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Mr Simon Madjie, stressed that the Volta Region remained strategic in the promotion of the country’s economic activities, saying: “The fertile farmlands place the region in a vantage position for clean agro-processing, since products would not be contaminated.”
Mr Madjie noted that apart from agriculture and agro-processing industrialisation, the Volta Region also has minerals like gold and diamond, including huge tourism attractions, and urged the people to cooperate with his outfit to promote the development of the region.
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, said the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) had created a conducive atmosphere for investors to visit the region and explore opportunities for investment, adding that the region is ready to accommodate investors for development and mutual benefit.
The Paramount Chief of the Takla Traditional Area, Togbe Adzokoto, commended the government for the deliberate effort to bring the needed development to the region and promised the support of traditional authorities to promote its growth.
The Volta and Oti Regional Office of the GIPC was inaugurated in Ho to underscore the importance attached to the development of the region through investment.
