Chiefs and people of Wagadugu near Nkoranza have appealed to the government to construct a classroom block for the District Assembly (D/A) Basic School in the community.
This, according to them, would help improve effective teaching and learning in the school thereby ensuring sustainable academic excellence in the Wagadugu community.
Speaking with the Ghanaian Times on Tuesday at Wagadugu in the Bono East Region, Baba Aboubouyi, an opinion leader of the community, underscored the urgent need for classroom facilities to accommodate the kindergarten (KG) and Junior High School(JHS) pupils.
Baba Aboubouyi said the pupils were studying under the sun after their classroom block which was in bad state, collapsed by thunderstorm seven years ago saying, the community intervened in the situation.
“We erected three structures with bamboo and palm branches through communal labour, to contain the JHS pupils and KG temporary. The pupils have since remained in these structures,” he lamented.
The opinion leader noted that the current environment of the school is not conducive for effective academic work adding that we are appealing to the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly to come to our aid.
Baba Aboubouyi expressed worry about how the school have to closedown whenever it threatens to rain in order to safeguard the lives of pupils and teachers.
The Head teacher of Wagadugu D/A Basic School, MrIddrisuIssah, indicated that the school also lacks accommodation for teachers saying that our teachers commune from Nkoranza and Techiman to school daily.
“There is no toilet facility, science and computer laboratories, library among others to enhance teaching and learning in our school. We are inviting individuals, organisations and groups to support us,” MrIssah appealed.
The head teacher was happy to announce that the school which was established in 2008, had chalked a lot of successes in sports, cultural, academic competitions and others.
MrIssah added that the school’s first batch of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) had a 100 per cent pass mark.
The Chairman of the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, Mr Mohammed Iddrisu, solicited support from the Bono East Regional Minister, MrKwasiAduGyan, and other stakeholders to support the school.
