Walewale MP supports 600 widows
The Member of Parliament for Walewale Constituency in the North East Region, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, yesterday presented assorted food and other items worth about GH 300,000 to about 600 widows in the constituency.
The items included several packs of tomato paste, more than hundred bags of rice, cooking oil, salt and packs of spices and yards of wax print.
The MP who is the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection also presented an unspecified amount of money to the widows.
Speaking at the presentation of the item in Walewale, HajiaLariba mentioned that the items were her way of helping to ease the plight of the widows.
“This is to help make lives comfortable for these mothers who do not have anybody to support them,” she stated.
The MP noted with concern that most widows were depending solely on charity from relatives and friends, hence the donation.
She lamented that the widows were very vulnerable and needed to be assisted.
HajiaLariba, therefore, pledged to take the necessary steps to make life more meaningful for them.
She also indicated the willingness to get funds to establish small businesses to enable them to become self-dependents.
The Municipal Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Mr Aremeyaw Issahaku Somo Lucky Basintale, who witnessed the presentation said the help was timely as it would enable them to also enjoy the New Year.
He commended the MP for the donation and also indicated the Assembly’s readiness to support the widows soon.
