Weija Divisional Police Headquarters at Tuba inaugurated
A newly constructed Weija Divisional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service was on Thursday inaugurated at Tuba, near Kasoa in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The project was awarded on February 24, 2022 and completed in June 2022. It was funded through the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) at a cost of GH¢ 732,380.28.
Inaugurating the project, Mr Joseph Nyarni Stephen, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga South, said the project from the beginning was faced with a lot of challenges, but with understanding between the chiefs and the opinion leaders in the area, they were able to achieve the said project.
He said the Weija Divisional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service was formally situated around the toll booth for many years and had to do with make-shift structures which came with inconvenience.
Mr Nyarni said the project brings to three police facilities established in six months, following Danchira and Tenbiban police stations built in the Domeabra Obom Constituency to serve the citizenry.
He said with memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) and the Water Users Association of Tuba, a land for projects was acquired by the government through the Assembly.
Mr Nyarni thanked GIDA and the farmers for their support in getting the partnership working.
He said the partnership had also given birth to the on-going construction of a farmers’ market to facilitate and enhance the work of the numerous farmers within the Tuba community.
Mr Nyarni said the Tuba community had also supported the police with some tables and chairs, adding that “this shows that the community has welcomed the police presence in their midst, for the benefit of the community.”
The MCE said four new storey-office complex to house the municipal assembly, its departments and agencies was currently ongoing at Tuba as a result of the partnership.
He said, an official residence of the Assembly had been completed at Tuba and was in use.
Mr Nyarni expressed the hope that the Police personnel would take good care of the project and exhibit high level of professionalism so that the facility would achieve the intended purpose.
In a speech read on his behalf, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr Shaibu Gariba, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, thanked the Assembly for supporting the police administration in bringing peace and order to the community through the facility.
He said, apart from the project provided by the Assembly, motorcycles were also presented, which had helped to fight criminal activities in the area.
COP Gariba thanked the Assembly for meeting the needs of the police and expressed the hope that the facility would help to address security issues in the district.
