Welder jailed 4 years for stealing
The Adenta Circuit Court yesterday sentenced a 23-years-old welder to four years imprisonment with hard labour after he was found guilty to stealing assorted items valued at GH¢ 9,378 at Mile 13 Frafraha in Accra.
The items belonging to a senior Immigration officer included a 43-inche LG television set, valued at GH¢4,500, an Acer Laptop GH¢2,500, two Blu Gate mobile phones valued at GH¢2,208, an Itel mobile phone valued at GH¢170 all valued at GH¢9,378.
Edmund Asare pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing and was sentenced accordingly by the Court presided by Justice Sedinam Barlokah.
Police Chief Inspector Annim Darko prosecuting told the court that the complainant is a Senior Immigration Officer residing at Ghana Immigration Quarters at Mile 13 Fafraha-Adenta, while accused resides at Frafraha-Alhaji.
He told the court that on July 24, 2023 at about 10: 30 am, while the complainant had left for work, the accused entered her room and made away with the items.
The court heard that on August 30, 2023 at about 12:00 pm the accused went to the house of the complainant again and entered her Toyota Corolla Saloon to steal but luck eluded him and was spotted by complainant.
Chief Inspector Darko stated that the complainant gave the accused a hot chase amidst shouting for help.
He said some neighbors who were attracted to her cry for help went to her rescue and help apprehend the convict and sent him to the Adenta Police Station.
The court was told that the accused admitted offence and led the Police to the home of the second accused Isaac Kofi Dordoe 42 whom he sold the 43 inches LG TV set and the Acer laptop to.
Chief Inspector Darko said the items were retrieved from the room of the second accused and the two were arraigned before the court.
Asare pleaded guilty while Dordoe who was charged for dishonestly receiving stolen items was granted bail and would appear at a later date.
