Wesley Grammar launches 70th anniversary celebration
Wesley Grammar Senior High School officially launched its 70th anniversary celebration in Accra on Saturday with a call on stakeholders to blend investment in technology with the school’s enduring Methodist values of discipline, service, and integrity.
The anniversary that will be celebrated next year was launched under the theme, “70 Years of Holistic Methodist Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing the New Technology of the Future.”
Speaking at the launch, the National Security Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Prosper Bani, described the school’s seven-decade journey as “a testimony to God’s grace, the vision of its founders, the sacrifices of parents, and the resilience of students.”
Mr Bani, who is also an alumni of the school, said that the theme for the launch was both relevant and timely, noting that artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital learning were reshaping education globally.
He urged teachers, parents, alumni, and the church to help guide students in the responsible use of technology, stressing that the school’s next 70 years must integrate innovation with moral grounding in order to sustain its legacy.
For his part, the Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, and an alumni of the school, Professor Peter Quartey, appealed for renewed alumni support to drive the school’s development.
The Headmistress of Wesley Grammar School, Mrs Barbara Juliet Takyiwaa Thompson, lauded the founders, alumni, staff, and students for their sustained contributions, pointing to Wesley Grammar’s strong academic record and impact on society.
She appealed to the government to support the school to complete a stalled 12-unit classroom block, construct an assembly hall and administration block, refurbish science laboratories, and provide additional dormitories and staff accommodation.
Chairperson of the occasion, Professor Rosemond Boahene, also commended past and present leaders, alumni, and students for keeping the flame of the school alive.
She urged stakeholders to commit resources towards infrastructure, technology, and character formation in order to adequately prepare learners for the digital future.
The launch featured the introduction of the anniversary cloth by Mr Konadu and the unveiling of the anniversary logo and a count down animation video by Mr Bani.
