Wesley Grammar launches 70th anniversary celebrations

ALUMNI of Wesley Grammar School on Saturday returned to their alma mater for a homecoming event to launch activities marking the school’s 70th anniversary.

The event brought together old students from different year groups, including some who completed the school more than five decades ago, to reconnect and reflect on the institution’s legacy of Methodist education.

The anniversary is on the theme: “Reminiscing 70 Years of Holistic Methodist Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing New Technology for the Future.”

The National President of the Wesley Grammar Old Students Association (WESGOSA), Mr. Alexander Konadu, said the homecoming formed part of a series of activities planned to celebrate the milestone.

He said the anniversary programme would continue throughout the week with activities involving students, alumni and school management.

According to him, a public lecture will be held on Wednesday at Wesley Towers where notable alumni, including Prof. Peter Quartey and Prof. Ransford Gyampo, are expected to speak.

Other activities include internal school programmes, a bonfire night on Friday and the main anniversary celebration on March 14, followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday to climax the celebrations.

Mr. Konadu noted that the anniversary also provided an opportunity for alumni to assess the needs of the school and contribute to its development.

The Headmistress of Wesley Grammar School, Mrs. Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, commended the alumni for their continuous support for the development of the school.

She cited contributions from various year groups, including the installation of corn and vegetable mills for the school kitchen, donation of dining hall tables and the renovation of the robotics centre with laptops, an interactive board, projector and robotics kits.
