Zito blames Kotoko collapse on tactical indiscipline
Kotoko Head Coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has blamed the slump in fortunes of the Porcupine Warriors on tactical indiscipline on the part of the attackers.
According to Zito, scoring from the many chances they create has become the most difficult thing for his attackers despite working on them at their training sessions.
But, that according to him does not change the team’s ambition to win the Premier League this year.
Coach Zito said this after Kotoko suffered their second defeat of the season by losing 1-0 to Hohoe United on Sunday in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) Match day 13 clash.
Despite the dominance by the home team, Kotoko created many goal-scoring chances, especially in the second half but failed to find the back of the net.
It extended Kotoko’s unbeaten streak to four after losing to Baseke Holy Stars, drew with Medeama SC and Samartex before yesterday’s defeat to Hohoe United.
Kotoko’s last win was on November 19 when they defeated Young Apostles.
This run, he mentioned, was unacceptable for a club that has a target to win the competition.
“Kotoko must be doing better than this. The performance in the last few matches has not been encouraging. Against Hohoe United, we had a poor first half and we paid dearly for it.”
“Our training of late focuses on scoring. That is very important in ending our winless run. Our strikers must begin to live up to expectation and start scoring the goals,” he noted.
According to Coach Zito, he found nothing wrong with the freekick awarded to Hohoe United.
“It was a genuine free-kick and the player (William Oduro) took it well. It was just another disappointing day for us. We’ll go back to keep working until we get everything right,” he added.
He apologized to the supporters and urged them to sustain the support for the club as it aims to bounce back strongly to return to winning ways.
