Three persons suspected of murdering Nana Yaw Kyere, a mobile phone dealer, have appeared before the Teshie Circuit Court and been remanded into police custody.
The accused, Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai, are to reappear before the court on October 9, 2026.
The Ghana Police Service arrested the three suspects following the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33 year old Nana Yaw Kyere, whose body was discovered partially burnt at Community 18 in Accra.
A statement signed by the Staff Officer at the Police Public Affairs Directorate, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richmond Mensah, said the Police said preliminary investigations had established that Nana Yaw Kyere left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on September 19, 2026, in his Honda Civic vehicle but did not return home.
The deceased, who operated a mobile phone business around the Nkrumah Circle area of Accra and was popularly known as Dinero, was initially reported missing on September 22, 2026.
However, information received by the police last week indicated that he had visited a woman in the Teshie area, where he was allegedly kidnapped and murdered, after which his assailants attempted to burn his body.
Investigations further indicated that Nana Yaw had apparently suspected that something bad might happen to him on the night of the incident and sent messages to a friend through his mobile phone to enable the friend to track his live location.
According to the police, the victim was lured to the residence of one of the suspects, Philip Tefe, at Teshie Agbleza, by Sarah Osei Adams.
The police said the two suspects later confessed to their involvement in the incident, with Philip Tefe allegedly admitting that he attacked the victim during a confrontation and hit him with a metallic object, causing him injuries.
The victim was subsequently moved to another room and left unattended, where he later died.
The Police said further investigations established that the body was conveyed in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20, where it was dumped in a bush and set ablaze.
The partially burnt body was discovered at Community 18 on September 21 and was subsequently identified by the victim’s biological mother and an uncle at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24.
As part of the investigation, the Police retrieved Kyere’s iPhone 12, which Tefe allegedly sold for GH¢100 to Sunday Omeje, who was subsequently cautioned and detained for allegedly dishonestly receiving the phone.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai, who the Police said was being investigated in connection with the disposal of the body.
The Kia Morning vehicle belonging to his father, which the Police believed was used to convey the victim’s body, had also been impounded.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation as the police continue their inquiries.
