54 suspected criminals arrested in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis
Fifty-four suspected criminals have been arrested by the Western Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), for various offences, to prevent crime and ensure law and order in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The suspects, mostly motorcycle and tricycle riders, will be screened and those found culpable would be arraigned while some motorcycles have been impounded by the MTTD.
The Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, yesterday, said the three-day operation, was led by the Regional MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent Isaac K. Sorkpah.
DSP Adiku said that, the Regional Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) assisted the MTTD to clamp down on the use of motorcycles for criminal activities within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
“The operation was also aimed at arresting riders, who violate road traffic regulations such as the use of unregistered motorcycles and tricycles, riding without license or insurance and use of motorcycles without the needed documents,” she explained.
DSP Adiku said, the operation would be sustained to prevent crime and ensure discipline on the road.
