7,390 candidates sit for 2025 WASSCE in UWR

At least 7,390 Senior High School candidates are currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) in the Upper West Region.

The total number of candidates writing the examinations comprised students from 34 schools in the region.

Out of the 34 schools, 31 are public and three are private schools.

The 7,390 candidates are sitting for the examinations in 22 examinations centres in the Upper West Region.

Even though the examinations begun earlier, it gathered momentum last Monday, when practical papers were taken.

At the major centres, Wa Senior High School and Wa Senior High Technical for instance, the students on the campuses were seen going about their normal duties while the final year students were being prepped up.

In an interview with the Upper West Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council, Donald Tuor, he noted that the council did not engage any external examiners.

The Branch Controller expects the entire duration of the examinations to be smooth and incidence-free.

He therefore, warned teachers and the Ghana Education Service (GES) staff to be wary of dire consequences if they engage in any form of examinations malpractice.

Donald Tuor mentioned outright dismissal and criminal prosecution if they were caught in examinations malpractices.

Turning to the candidates, the Examinations Controller warned of cancellation of results and possible criminal prosecutions as part of punitive measures that awaits any perpetrators.

He added that the 2025 WASSCE would end on September 19.
