Bliss Eye Care opens new eye centre in Wa

The Bliss Eye Care has opened a new optometric facility in Wa to enhance access to specialised eye care.
The facility is equipped with advanced eye diagnostic and treatment technologies including a retinal/fundus camera, autorefractors, non-contact tonometer, phoropters, VFT machine, slit lamps, and state-of-the-art refraction units.
It also has consulting rooms, an optical laboratory, frames display section, a boardroom, administrative offices, a dispensing area and other ancillary facilities.
Speaking at the inauguration here, the Upper West Regional Coordinating Director, Hajia Pognaa Fati Koray, said the new facility would address the challenge where residents of Wa travelled longer distances to access eye healthcare.
Hajia Koray said the opening of the Bliss Eye Care Centre demonstrated that residents of the Upper West Region deserved healthcare services comparable to those available in large urban centres and commended the founder of Bliss Eye Care, for the construction of the new eye centre.
The Upper West Coordinating Director said the opening of the facility aligned with the national health goals aimed at strengthening infrastructure and human resources.
The founder and CEO Bliss Eye Care, Dr Zakarea Alhassan Baluri, in his address said he was motivated to construct the facility to address the problem where people travelled to Bawku and Agogo to seek eye care.
“This challenge fuelled my passion to become an optometrist and to build a sustainable and accessible eye care system in an underserved community,” he stated.
Dr Baluri expressed gratitude to Ghana Vision and the Swiss Red Cross for their support.
A retired Wa Municipal Health Director, Beatrice Kuunfaa said the new eye clinic was not to compete with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) but to complement the efforts of GHS providing quality eye care services.
She said that “Vision is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and encouraged residents to utilise the facility to support its growth into a world-class centre.”
The Godfather to Dr Baluri, Dr Peter Rust traced the journey of Bliss Eye Care from a simple vision to a transformative healthcare institution.
