Cartel Foundation organises health walk for Mamprobi residents
The Cartel Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Cartel Group of Companies, last Friday organised a health walk to promote the wellbeing of residents of Mamprobi in Accra and its surrounding communities.
The four-hour event dubbed Cartel Charity Walk, held on the theme “Advocating for Community Wellbeing,” attracted more than 3,000 participants.
The programme which began around 6 a.m. from the Mamprobi Post Office, went through Independence Square and ended at the Mamprobi Girls School, saw a variety of activities, including exercises, aerobics, and fruit consumption.
As part of the programme, participants also benefited from free health screening, eye testing, and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration for residents of Mamprobi.
Speaking to reporters after the walk, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cartel Group of Companies, a civil engineering firm, Mr Henry Harry Owoo, said the programme which started in 2021 formed part of the company’s corporate social investment efforts.
Mr Owoo said the initiative was aimed at promoting the health of Mamprobi residents and also educate them on healthy living practices.
He urged the resident of Mamprobi, and Ghanaians in general, to take their health seriously by exercising regularly and eating plenty of fruits.
He cautioned against self-medication and encouraged residents to visit the hospital whenever they felt unwell.
The Secretary of the Cartel Foundation, Ms Sandra Adama, also noted that participation in this year’s event was impressive, adding that the participants walked about 11 kilometres, compared to the nine kilometres covered during the previous year’s exercise.
“We were expecting about 2,000 participants, but by the end of the programme we had more than 3,000,” she said.
Some participants who spoke to the Ghanaian Times commended the Cartel Foundation for sustaining the exercise over the past four years.
