GCB Bank PLC wins 2025 Bankers League

GCB Bank PLC (GCB) emerged champions of the 2025 Bankers League that ended at the St. Thomas Aquinas School Park at Cantonment on Saturday, October 18.
The feat followed 16 fiercely contested matches, out of which Team GCB emerged victorious in 12, drew two and suffered two losses.
This, according to the bank, was no stroke of fortune. It was discipline, teamwork and an unrelenting appetite to win — qualities deeply rooted in GCB Bank’s culture.
Speaking after the triumph, Head Coach of the bank, Julius Ablorh, remarked, “I am filled with pride because we ended the tournament with an impressive 12 wins, two draws and two losses.
“We found the back of the net 21 times and conceded only six. Our defence stayed watertight, led by Edem Norvinu of the Central Processing Centre who kept 13 clean sheets.”
Reflecting on the victory, top scorer Nana Kesse Mensah of the Liberty House Branch, who netted seven goals, summed up the mood, saying that, “We entered this league with one mission; win and reflect the dominant status of our great bank.”
In the final embers of the league, when nerves typically crack, Team GCB showed aplomb, class and conviction, sealing a commanding 2–0 victory over UBA and a decisive 1–0 win against CBG.
In all, Nana Kesse Mensah (Liberty House Branch) registered the highest goals of seven and was followed by Salia Yasri Hamidu (CPC) with six goals, Derrick Sakre (CPC) with five goals, Seidu Abdullai (Transport Department) with two goals and Abdul Jalil Alhassan (Ashaiman Branch) with a goal.
The title now sits beside the eight trophies won at the recently concluded 2025 Citi Business Olympics, claiming the overall winner title.
