Bulls RLFC begins title defense with a victory over Panthers

Defending champions of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) Men’s 13s Championship, Bulls RLFC, began their title defense on a good note last Sunday by defeating Panthers RLFC 20 -18 in thrilling encounter at the University of Ghana Rugby League Stadium.
Bulls struck first with Kevin Boadu scoring a try in the 21st minute, Panthers hit back as Adam Marsuu went over the line to score a consolation try in the 25th minute. Accra Panthers earned additional 2 points after Darryl Amoatey scored the conversion kick. Leslie Boadu gave Bulls the lead again with a try in the 33rd minute, leaving the first half 8-6 in favour of Bulls RLFC.
Back from the break, Accra Panthers took control of the game with Sadik Ahmed scoring in the 48th minute followed by Jalilu Abdul in the 54th, with Darryl Amoatey and Shariff Arimiyaw converting the conversion kicks, respectively.
Bright Bawah’s powerful effort in the 64th minute brought Bulls back into contention and drawing even on the score sheet.
Leslie Boadu scored in the 72nd and took the conversion kick himself to increase the tally for his side.
Accra Panthers pressed hard in the closing stages but could not find the breakthrough until the referee brought proceedings to and end with Bulls running away with victory.
In the second game, Skolars RLFC stormed to a 32-26 victory over Nungua Tigers after taking a 28-0 lead in the first half with some ruthless display.
Match week two will feature debutant, UG Titans, and Dragons in the first game while a high-stake clash is expected between Legon based Skolars and Accra Panthers from Kawukudi.
