Ghana’s culture, hospitality, heritage on display at Accra Food Festival

MORE than 30 food vendors and lifestyle brands have participated in this year’s Accra Food Festival to celebrate Ghana’s culture, hospitality and heritage in honour of the birthday of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
This year’s edition of the annual event which was held in Accra, on Saturday, featured top outlets such as Noble House, Indian Heritage, Guinness, Dainess Food, Sranam Tesi and several food vendors.
Visitors were also treated to fashion and beauty products, made-in-Ghana clothing and accessories, with a children’s playground set up to ensure a family-friendly environment.
Organised by Accra Premium, the three-day event which ended yesterday, coincided with the birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, brought together food lovers, beverage companies, lifestyle and hospitality brands, as well as local artisans and entrepreneurs.
Visitors at the festival formed long queue waiting to be served their favourite meals such as waakye, jollof rice and grilled chicken.
There was the presence of health-conscious service companies who set up stands to promote health conscious products such as smoothies, fresh juice, herbal drinks and organic meals, as well as health conscious services.
Some chefs also used the platform to reimagine Ghanaian cuisine with international twists, demonstrating the growing innovation and dynamism in the country’s food industry.
Speaking at the event, Vendor Coordinator for Accra Premium, Mr Raymond Antwi Boasiako, said the festival was designed not only to promote business and networking but also to honour Dr Nkrumah’s legacy by showcasing Ghana’s creativity and diversity.
“This platform allows both local and international brands to connect with consumers, exchange ideas and celebrate Ghana’s hospitality. It is also our way of remembering the values Dr Nkrumah stood for innovation, culture and unity,” he said.
The Assistant General Manager for Dainess Food, Ms Brianna Boafo, said the company was using the platform to engage customers, boost sales and strengthen brand presence, while remaining committed to providing products such as baking powder, colours, flavour powders, cornflour, margarine, and vinegar.
Moreover, the Manager of Sranam Tesi from Surinam, Ms Dolores Hart, introduced Ghanaians to Surinamese delicacies including sausages, chicken masala, hot chicken, baked bananas with peanut butter and peanut soup with tom-tom (banana pieces).
“Visitors were also treated to Suriname’s popular cola lemon syrup, reinforcing the deep historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Suriname,” she said.
