Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the electorate to help retire former President and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama from politics.
“We can help champion this by ensuring that Ghanaians vote massively against Mr Mahama, who is also the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, in the upcoming polls,” he stressed.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu chaired the NPP Bono East Youth Wing campaign launch, which was under the theme: ‘Transforming Bono East into our Strongholds-The Focus of the Youth’.
Speaking at the campaign launch in Techiman, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu called on NPP members and the electorate to ensure that President Nana Akufo-Addo got overwhelming votes in the December 7, 2020 polls.
“I told my constituents in the Ashanti Region that, the 2020 elections are ‘double-track elections’ because Nana Akufo-Addo defeated then President Mahama in the previous elections with a margin of about a million votes, if the margin of victory reduces in this upcoming elections, he (Mahama) will feel he can contest again so let’s vote massively and win by two million votes, even the NDC will have no option but to retire him and that is what we must do.
“This is why I am saying the elections are double track since we are voting to win and also to retire Mr Mahama, we must work hard with the electorate towards the 2020 elections, and maintain a united front by also voting for all NPP parliamentary candidates to ensure NPP sustains majority in Parliament.
“If President Akufo-Addo wants to initiate policies and programmes, it has to be backed by law, if he doesn’t have majority of his people in parliament, and the NDC boycotts sittings as we have been seeing, it will be very difficult to pass any law and this is why we have to unite and get majority of our people in parliament.
“This will ensure that whatever he (President Akufo-Addo) wants to do for you will be easily achieved, we can do this by being united,” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted. -citinewsroom.com
