The Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region has received assorted food items and cash valued at GH¢100,000 from the Chief Executive Officer of Kabore Group of Companies, Alhaji Bukari Hamidu Kabore, in support of the welfare of visually impaired learners.
The donation comprised GH¢40,000 worth of food items and toiletries, as well as GH¢60,000 in cash. It was accompanied by a pledge to drill two mechanised boreholes, each fitted with a 10,000-litre polytank, to improve water supply to the school.
The gesture was made during a visit to the school at Akropong-Akuapem yesterday as part of activities marking his birthday on Wednesday.
Alhaji Kabore said the school held a special place in his heart, citing that he had previously worked there and was familiar with the challenges faced by both management and students.
He mentioned that the government alone could not cater for the needs of the school, and stressed the importance of private support.
“I know what this school means. The government alone cannot take care of the school. Some of us must also remember the school and support it,” he said.
Alhaji Kabore explained that although economic difficulties in 2025 delayed the fulfilment of his earlier pledge, improved business conditions this year had enabled him to honour the commitment.
He indicated that the donation fulfilled Kabore Foam Compound Limited’s pledge to contribute one per cent of its proceeds annually to the school.
He further stated that he had directed the management of the company and his family to ensure the annual contribution continued even in his absence.
“School for the Blind is part of my life and part of my family. Even if I am no longer here, my family and management know they must continue giving the one per cent because this is a commitment I do not joke with,” he emphasised.
Alhaji Kabore also urged the school authorities to engage a contractor to assess the proposed borehole project to enable work to begin promptly.
“I am not giving back to society. This school is my family and I am spending on my family,” he added.
As part of his birthday celebration, he invited students and staff of the school to join him and his family at a special gathering and assured management that he would cater for their transportation.
In appreciation, the school presented him with a citation in recognition of his generosity and unwavering support towards improving the welfare and academic lives of the learners.
The management commended him for his compassion and dedication to supporting vulnerable children, noting that his contributions had significantly improved life on campus.
Receiving the citation, Alhaji Kabore expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting the institution.
The Prince of the Fise Muslim Community, Jamal Kabore, assured the school that the family would sustain Alhaji Kabore’s vision by continuing the annual support.
He encouraged the students to remain determined and focused on their education despite their visual impairment, and commended the teachers for their dedication.
