Kennedy Agyapong hands over Hit and Run driver to police

A driver, Isaac Kumi, who killed a motorcycle rider on the Nsuta–Anyinabrim road in the Central Region has been handed over to the Assin South District Police Command by the former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Kennedy Agyapong.
This was after the suspect was given a hot chase leading to his arrest after he had struck down the motorbike rider killing him instantly and then bolted away.
The deceased believed to be in his early 30s has been identified as G/Cpl Samuel Okonegye with the Trede Police.
According to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified driver failed to stop after fatally knocking down the motorcyclist. Moments later, Hon. Agyapong, who was also travelling on the same route, arrived at the scene of the accident. Upon seeing the lifeless body lying on the road.
Realising the suspect was attempting to flee, Agyapong mounted an immediate chase. After a brief pursuit, he successfully intercepted the fleeing vehicle, arrested the driver, and handed him over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
Residents in the area have praised the MP’s swift response and bravery, describing his actions as a rare example of leadership and commitment to justice.
Police have since confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The identity of the deceased motorcycle rider is yet to be officially disclosed, pending notification of the family.
