Methodist Church launches Education Week

Methodist Church Ghana on Tuesday launched its annual Education Week in Accra, with a charge on the church to improve educational infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

The Education Week celebration under the theme; ‘Discipleship: Growing into Christian Maturity,’ (Ephesians 4:14,15) affords the Methodist Education Unit and the church to create awareness among the general populace regarding Methodist education with focus on excellence, morality and service.

It also affords the church to thank God for the succeses chalked in the year as well as evaluate the educational goals set as a Connexion, Dioceses, Circuit and Society.

The Administrative Bishop, Right Reverend Michael A. Bossman who launched the week-long celebration on behalf of the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo said dilapidated school structures were not a demonstration to the love and service of God’s community by the church.

“it’s certainly does not honour God and not a good image of the church while the church’s school structures are in tatters whereas other places, same church breaks down, expand and rebuild, but ours are collapsing,” he said.

The Presiding Bishop underscored the need for the church to make effort to improve their school structures and logistical needs to uplift the schools to higher standards.

He also charged the church to be on the forefront in seeking financial support to build a capacity of unit offices to enable them undertake inspections and quality exercises and training of staff.

He called on all Dioceses to step effort in love for scripture, discipleship both in the church and schools to bring significant impact on their Christian growth and maturity.

The Director-General of Education, Dr Eric Nkansah in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Director, Management Services, Mr Stephen Kwaku Owusu commeded the Methodist Church Ghana for their laudable contributions towards Ghana’s education system especially at the pre-tertiary level.

He assured them of his commitment to promote the cordial working relationship between the church and the Ghana Education Service.

The activities for the week-long celebration which would be observed across all Dioceses would include clean-up exercise, health screening and climaxed it with a fund raising on May 12, 2024.
