NANA to equip Shia SHS library
THE Norvisi Association of North America (NANA) has adopted the library of the newly established senior high school (SHS) at Shia in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region and pledged to equip it with books, teaching and learning materials and furniture.
The initiative forms part of the association’s commitment to supporting education, healthcare and other social interventions to accelerate development in the community.
The Chairman of NANA, Mr Blaise Anthony Hometorwu, announced this at the association’s 2026 Biennial Congress in Cheshire, Connecticut, in the United States.
Held on the theme, “Development in Unity”, with the motto, “Together We Grow, Together We Succeed”, the congress brought together members to deliberate on development initiatives for Shia.
Mr Hometorwu said NANA had constituted a project team to engage the school authorities and develop a comprehensive development plan for the school in collaboration with Shia citizens in Ghana.
He said the association would also support the ongoing Shia Community Centre project and urged Shia citizens in North America, Europe and Ghana to commit themselves to its early completion.
Mr Hometorwu said NANA had already contributed to the renovation of the maternity block at Shia to improve healthcare delivery for mothers and babies.
The association, he added, had also mobilised funds to rehabilitate the Shia Public Cemetery, with emphasis on sound environmental practices.
He stressed the need for unity and collective action to drive development in the community, urging citizens at home and abroad to give back to the community that shaped their lives.
Mr Hometorwu said the association’s interventions demonstrated how the diaspora could contribute to development through partnerships and the mobilisation of skills and resources.
He expressed appreciation to the Ewe Association of Southern Connecticut, led by its Vice President, Mr Chris Diaba, for its support and donations towards NANA’s development projects in Shia.
The Chief of Aveme-Dra, Togbe Tornu Yao V, who was the guest of honour, commended NANA members for their contributions and urged them to build a legacy worthy of emulation by future generations.
He encouraged the association to remain united and sustain its investment in education and healthcare, which he described as vital pillars of community development.
Togbe Tornu Yao also urged members to uphold and promote the rich culture and traditions of the Ewe people wherever they found themselves.
The congress ended with a banquet showcasing the cultural heritage of Shia and the Ewe people. Members who distinguished themselves were honoured, while funds were raised to support development projects in Shia.
