The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old compatriot whose body was found in a pool of blood at his residence at Sanzirigu in Tamale.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested while allegedly attempting to flee into the Republic of Togo through the Tatale route. They are expected to be arraigned before court today to facilitate ongoing investigations.
A statement issued by the Northern Regional Police Command said the victim, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, was found dead in his bedroom on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations established that the deceased, his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor, had all been living together in a three bedroom apartment at Sanzirigu.
It said Police commenced investigations after receiving a report that the deceased had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom.
A team of investigators that visited the scene discovered that the deceased had sustained a deep cut wound to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room had also been ransacked.
The statement said Police recovered a wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, together with other evidential materials for forensic examination.
The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where a medical officer confirmed him dead before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Police said intelligence-led operations led to the interception and arrest of the two suspects at Tatale on the same day as they allegedly attempted to escape into neighbouring Togo. They were subsequently handed over to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department to assist with investigations.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted conspiring to murder the deceased, claiming he had been withholding proceeds from internet fraud activities.
The Northern Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all persons involved in the crime were brought to justice and appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime.
