Police Sergeant Simon Nana Komla of the Aflao District Accident Squad, who was riding a motorcycle from the Aflao Police Station towards the border post was killed on the spot on Monday in a vehicle accident at Aflao in the Ketu South municipality of the Volta Region.
The Sgt Nana Komla, who was riding the motorcycle was knocked down by a vehicle, which pulled his body into another vehicle belonging to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), speeding from the opposite direction.
The accident involving the GRA vehicle occurred at about 12:10pm on Monday near the Abii National Bank, Aflao.
A source close to the security agencies in Aflao said that the Hyundai mini bus, with registration number GW 814–15, hit the motorcycle and the police officer fell onto the ground before he was pulled along by the mini bus, which collided with the oncoming Toyota Fortune vehicle, GRA–CD-10.
The officer, the source said, sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body.
He was rushed to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital where doctors said that he died before the body arrived at the facility.
The body has been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra for preservation and autopsy.
The driver of the mini bus, Richard Afetsi, and the GRA driver JRS, Kofi Anokye, were arrested and placed in police custody after the incident.
Meanwhile, the Sanya motorcycle which the police officer was riding and the two vehicles involved in the accident, have been impounded.
