Saminu to compete in NCAA Championship in Oregon

 The man with the world’s second fastest time over 100 Metres, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu is set to compete for a national title in the United States of America today.

The Ghanaian sprinter, Saminu, will compete in the National Colle­giate Athletic Association (NCAA) 100 Metre and 200 Metre events in midweek.

He will compete in the 100 Metre event that is scheduled to commence at 12:30 GMT.

Ghana’s national record holder, Saminu, who will be running for University of South Florida, will compete in the 200 Metre event at 1:30 GMT.

In the 100m event, Saminu will be up against Taylor Banks of Uni­versity of South California (USC) who’s best time this season is 9.91 seconds and Eddie Osei-Nketia, also of USC and New Zealand, whose best time this season is 10.03 seconds.

Saminu run a world leading 100 metre time of 9.86 seconds before American Kenny Bednarek matched the time and fellow American Trayvon Bromell low­ered the time by winning the Rome Leg of the Diamond League in a time of 9.84 seconds.

Saminu’s 9.86 second mark broke Benjamin Azamati’s Ghana record of 9.90 seconds.
