Saminu to compete in NCAA Championship in Oregon
The man with the world’s second fastest time over 100 Metres, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu is set to compete for a national title in the United States of America today.
The Ghanaian sprinter, Saminu, will compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) 100 Metre and 200 Metre events in midweek.
He will compete in the 100 Metre event that is scheduled to commence at 12:30 GMT.
Ghana’s national record holder, Saminu, who will be running for University of South Florida, will compete in the 200 Metre event at 1:30 GMT.
In the 100m event, Saminu will be up against Taylor Banks of University of South California (USC) who’s best time this season is 9.91 seconds and Eddie Osei-Nketia, also of USC and New Zealand, whose best time this season is 10.03 seconds.
Saminu run a world leading 100 metre time of 9.86 seconds before American Kenny Bednarek matched the time and fellow American Trayvon Bromell lowered the time by winning the Rome Leg of the Diamond League in a time of 9.84 seconds.
Saminu’s 9.86 second mark broke Benjamin Azamati’s Ghana record of 9.90 seconds.
