Sissala East Police impound truckload of Rosewood at Kasana

The Sissala East Municipal Police Command in the Upper West Region have impounded a truck of Rosewood at Kasana, a surburb of the municipality.

Briefing the Ghanaian Times at Wa, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng said the police in Tumu, the capital of the municipality impounded the vehicle upon a tip-off that a truck was loading Rosewood at Kasana on Friday.

He said the police proceeded to the venue and saw a Man Diesel Truck with registration number GW 3627 W loaded with the wood.

Inspector Boateng said the police escorted the truck loaded with the wood to the police station at Tumu.

He said the driver of the vehicle, Mr Mutari Abdulai, was subsequently arrested and was assisting the police in their investigations.

“According to the driver, he was brought to the place by one Charles Amoah to convey the wood to Walewale in the North East Region.

“He later led the police to arrest the said Mr Amoah on Saturday,” Inspector Boateng indicated.

He said the two had been granted bail but were assisting the police with investigation into the matter.

The Police could not tell the value of the rosewood as they were yet to ascertain that through investigations.

When contacted, a staff of the Forest Division of the Forestry Commission who pleaded  anonymity said the division would have to physically examine the wood and assess its quantity before they can put  value to it.
