State Housing targets nearly 600 housing units for delivery in 2027

The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) is targeting the delivery of nearly 600 housing units in 2027 to help address Ghana’s growing housing deficit, its Managing Director, Mr John Bawah, has disclosed.
He said the company had about 300 housing units in the pipeline for 2026 and was expanding its operations nationwide to increase the supply of homes for different income groups.
Mr Bawah disclosed this at the open house ceremony for the company’s 195-unit Surge Homes development at Amrahia in the Greater Accra Region.

He said the company was repositioning itself as a leading housing developer while supporting the government’s efforts to address the housing challenge through increased housing supply and improved access to affordable mortgage financing.
According to him, Ghana’s housing deficit stood at about [figure not provided in the original text].
He said demand for housing continued to grow, putting pressure on the available housing stock, particularly in urban areas.
He said the company was expanding its project portfolio, including a housing project in Kumasi expected to deliver about 1,000 units.

Other projects were also being undertaken in Tamale, Cape Coast and Takoradi, with plans to extend operations to the newly created regions.
Mr Bawah said the company was committed to providing homes for high-income earners, the middle class, lower-middle-income earners and low-income households.
“Our role is to make sure that we are providing enough housing stock for every financial class,” he said.
He noted that declining interest rates had created opportunities for prospective homeowners, with mortgage rates that previously stood at about 25 per cent falling to between 12 and 13 per cent in some cases, while repayment periods extended to 20 years.
Mr Bawah added that ongoing road infrastructure projects under the government’s Big Push initiative were expected to improve access to the estate and other parts of the capital.
He said improved road networks would allow people to choose homes based on their financial capacity while maintaining convenient access to their workplaces.
The Head of Commercial at SHC, Mr Agyekum Sampong, said the company was offering a five per cent discount on selected two- and three-bedroom houses to prospective homeowners who completed payment by December 15, 2026.
He said the initiative formed part of efforts to make homeownership more accessible to Ghanaians while giving prospective buyers and investors the opportunity to inspect the company’s properties.
Mr Sampong said SHC was collaborating with Ecobank, Fidelity Bank, Absa Bank and Republic Bank to provide flexible financing and mortgage options.
He added that the company offered buyers assurance against land litigation and provided property documentation free of charge.
Customers seeking to purchase properties through mortgages would be referred to the partner banks, whose relationship managers would guide them through the application process, he said.
