Tamale set for 62nd Indepence Day anniversary tomorrow

The Northern Region is ready and fully prepared for the 62th Independence Day celebration tomorrow. 

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Sa-eed, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times yesterday maintained that the region was more than prepared for the big event tomorrow.

“We are more than prepared for the Independence Day parade, here in the region,” he assured.

Tamale has been chosen by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to host this year’s` Independence Day celebration.

The 62nd Independence Day parade which is the first of its kind to be hosted outside Accra, would be under the theme “Deliberating Peace and Unity”.

Mr Sa-eed, chairman of the Local Organising Committee mentioned that all the equipment and logistics needed for the Independence Day celebration had been brought into Tamale.

“All the vehicles and security apparatus normally used on the day are here with us in Tamale,” he stated.

He added that helicopters, horses and presidential vehicle used to inspect the guard of honour were also already in Tamale.

Mr Sa-eed indicated that the Coordinating Council had concluded all arrangements for a smooth celebration of the day, adding that some test trial had been carried out on the equipment to be used tomorrow.

He said that commercial drivers in the region particularly those within the Tamale metropolis had been given orientation on how to handle visitors.

The Regional Minister added that some food vendors and hoteliers had been taken through good customer relationship practice. 

Mr Sa-eed hinted that residents in the Northern Region and beyond were expected to wear northern attire.

All streets in Tamale metropolis and major roads in the region had been white washed in readiness for the Independence Day celebration tomorrow.

The authorities have mounted Ghana flags along the streets on streetlights, on trees and other objects in the metropolis.
