
Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) in Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region on Saturday launched its 75th anniversary celebration under the theme: ‘75 Years of Excellence in Education-Celebrating the Legacy of the Northern Light and Inspiring Future Generation.’
The event was launched at a colourful ceremony with students adorned in anniversary T-Shirts amid drumming and dancing to begin the year-long celebration of the school’s existence since 1951.
The Minister of Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, in a speech read for him at the launch here in Sagnarigu said 75 years was not just a milestone it was a testament to resilience, excellence and a rich legacy of academic and moral training.
He said since the establishment of Tamale Senior High School, it had produced distinguished personalities who had excelled in various fields of national and international endeavours, politics, education, medicine, law, business, security services, engineering and public administration.
He stated that TAMASCO today stood tall as one of the most respected second-cycle institutions in the country.
“The future of this great institution depends on our collective commitment to preserving and strengthening the standards that have sustained it over the decades,” he noted.
The minister urged the School Management and Staff to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties in the school.
Mr Iddrisu said discipline must remain the bedrock of academic excellence in the school, adding that without discipline they could never be meaningful teaching and learning.
He encouraged management to enforce school rules fairly and firmly while creating an environment that promotes academic seriousness, integrity and respect for authority.
Mr Iddrisu also stated that the quality of guidance and mentorship the school provided would determine the future of many young people entrusted into their care.
Furthermore, he encouraged the management of the school to intensify measures aimed at improving academic performance, particularly in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, TAMASCO had a proud academic reputation to protect every effort made in order to ensure consistent excellence in external examinations.
He challenged them to Intensive teaching, effective supervision, proper guidance and counselling, regular assessment, and strong collaboration between parents and teachers were essential in achieving the set goal.
The minister reminded the students that education remained one of the surest pathways to success and national development.
“The opportunities you seek in life will largely depend on the seriousness with which you approach your studies today,” he underlined.
The Headmaster of Tamale Senior High School, Mr Mohammed Yakubu Mustapha, said the 75th Anniversary celebration demonstrated the commitment to support the continued growth and development of Tamale Senior High School.
He urged all the stakeholders of the school to work together to improve infrastructure, enhance academic performance, promote discipline, and preserve the proud traditions of the noble TAMASCO for generations yet unborn.
