3 remanded for robbing woman of GH¢6,000
Three persons who allegedly robbed a woman of GH¢6,000.00, jewels, mobile phones and other personal effects in May ,2019, have been remanded into police custody by an Accra circuit court.
The accused, Richard Owusu, John Aziboro and Abdulai Yakubu, who pleaded not guilty to six counts of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and causing unlawful damage, would appear again on July 3.
Chief Inspector Emmanuel Haligah, prosecuting, told the court presided by Mrs Harriet Jane Naa Akweley Quaye that both the complainant and accused reside in Santor, a suburb of Accra.
He said on May 5, while complainant was asleep at about 2am she heard a simultaneous bang and gunshot at her door.
The prosecutor said the complainant became terrified and called for help, nonetheless, the accused broke into her room and held her hostage.
Chief Insp. Haligah said Aziboro, who was in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, threatened to kill the complainant if she did not surrender her belongings, which she obliged.
He said the accused collected GH¢6,000.00, a jewelry box containing gold necklace valued at GH¢2,500.00 and three mobile phones valued at GH¢1,000.00.
The court heard that the victim lodged a complaint with the Lakeside Police and the accused were arrested on May 24, 2019.
Chief Insp. Haligah said police investigators found a knife, chisel and a pair of scissors in the rooms of the accused upon further interrogation.
On June 4, the prosecutor said an identification parade was conducted at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters, where the complainant identified the accused as the persons who robbed her.
Prosecution told the court that accused admitted that they acted together with a common purpose to rob the woman.
The case stands adjourned.
