Collation and declaration of the parliamentary results for the Tema Central Constituency has been suspended following collation disagreement between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates.
Earlier, supporters of the NDC accused the Electoral Commission officials for delaying the collation and declaration of the parliamentary results, alleging that the delay was deliberate to skew the figures in favour of the NPP candidate, Charles Forson.
Citing some inconsistencies in the presidential results, the NPP collation agents called for recollation of the results for which it was done for three consecutive times.
In the process of the third count around 11:30 am on Sunday at the time when the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat, some NDC supporters invaded the collation centre in an attempt to get the EC officials to expedite the collation and declaration processes.
The security personnel comprising the police, immigration and fire service officers managed to contain the agitating supporters who wanted to cause damage to the electoral materials.
The Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer, Manasseh Ofosuhene Asante, stated that, gauging the unstable atmosphere and other security concerns, the NDC PC, Ebi Bright and the NPP PC, Charles Forson and their agents had agreed to postpone the collation and declaration to Tuesday, December 10 at the Tema Regional Police Command where the pink sheet boxes had been conveyed to for keeping and safety.
The three-time contender for the Tema Central Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC, Ebi Bright, alleged that the hesitation of her opponent was as a result of his imminent defeat hence employing some tactics to delay the process.
