Food Vendor accused of having sex with minor

A 31-year-old food vendor has appeared before the Gender Based Violence Court for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl at Awudome, a suburb of Accra.

Emmanuel Bimpong, charged with defilement, has pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah admitted Bimpong to GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties to reappear on September 20.

The court further directed prosecution to file their disclosures.

Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor said the complainant in the matter was a fashion designer residing at Awudome Estate.

The court heard that Bimpong was a resident of Awudome Roundabout, Accra, while the victim also lived with her guardian at Awudome Roundabout, who operated a provision shop in the area.

Chief Insp Tekpor said Bimpong operated his business near the victim guardian’s shop.

According to prosecution, while the victim’s guardian had left for church, Bimpong lured the victim into his shop, had sexual intercourse with her and warned the victim not to tell anyone.

Chief Insp Tekpor said the victim narrated the incident to her sister and when the complainant heard of the incident, she reported to the police.

The court heard that a medical report was issued for the girl to send the victim to the hospital for examination and treatment. – GNA
