Hassacas Ladies trounce Berry Ladies in WPL opener

Defending Malta Guin­ness Wom­en’s Premier League cham­pions, Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies, began their title defense on a winning note, beating Berry Ladies 3-0 in their Southern zone match day one fixture at the Gyandu Stadium in Sekondi on Monday.

Striker Mercy Attobrah stole the show by grabbing a hat-trick while Vivian Cudjoe added a goal to send the visitors back home empty-handed.

Unlike previous games between them that has been action-packed, Monday’s game was one-sided from the blast of the whistle.

In other games which took place over the weekend, La­dystrikers suffered a 4-0 home thrashing at the hands of Police Ladies at the Robert Mensah Sta­dium with braces from Victoria Teye Williams and Ruth Appiah.

At the Adjiringano Astro­Turf, a goal in each half from Beline Nyarko and Jessica Appiah was all Epiphany Warriors need­ed to brush aside Faith Ladies 2-0 while Nancy Opoku and Com­fort Siaw made sure Army Ladies defeated Soccer Intellectuals 2-0 at the Teshie Mats Park.

On Sunday, Sekinatu Amadu’s goal for Jonina FC ensured they defeated Halifax Queens 1-0 at the Antie Aku Astro Turf.

In the Northern zone, Esther Owusu and Mary Amponsah’s first-half goals were enough to steal victory for visiting Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their Bono derby with Prisons Ladies at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Constance Korsah scored a brace with Linda Sarpong, by adding a goal, as Kumasi Sports Academy defeated Supreme Ladies 3-1 with Ellen Nefaabong scoring the consolation goal at Bantama Astro Turf.

Wasiima Mohammed’s lone goal last Friday at the Aliu Mahama Stadium was enough for Northern Ladies to beat FC Savannah Ladies 1-0.

Two goals from Sarah Nyarko and one by Yaa Abrafi helped Dreamz Ladies defeat Tamale Super Ladies 3-0 at the Kuliku­li Astro Turf in Tamale, while in the final game for week one played on Monday at the Ohene Ameyaw Park, Fosu Royal Ladies beat Sung Shining Ladies 2-0 with goals coming from Patri­cia Agyei and Deborah Agyei Kuruwaa
