Mahama touts himself as best person to lead NDC
Former President John Mahama has touted himself as the best person to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as its flagbearer into the 2024 presidential election.
He explained that his experience as a politician makes him the best candidate and asked the delegates not to take the risk of trying another person.
“We should not experiment again because my experience as a politician makes me the best candidate to lead our party into the 2024 presidential election so trying another person will be a risk for the NDC,” former President Mahama cautioned.
Addressing delegates, members and supporters of NDC at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Constituencyas part of a campaign tour of the Eastern Region, he insisted that the NDC should not experiment with another candidate to try again because the only person the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were scared of in the NDC was him.
“We do not want to experiment again and let nobody tell us to try him because if I was sure that any of my contesters can stand against NPP and win the elections, I would not have contested but we cannot take the risk because the only person the NPP are scared of in the NDC is John Dramani Mahama
“They have sleepless nights anytime they hear my name, it is the reason why they keep telling the NDC to bring a fresh person and are they the ones to tell us what we should do?
“It is just like Kotoko dictating to Hearts of Oak the kind of player they should field as a captain and a goalkeeper in a match, it is none of their business since I am so much convinced that God has given us power already,” the former president posited.
Former President Mahama is seeking re-election as the flagbearer of the NDC ahead of the 2024 presidential election and will be contesting with the former Minister of Finance and Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Kwabena Duffour and former Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu.
According to the former president, he claimed he was the only person the NPP wanted to avoid as the NDC’s presidential candidate because they knew he was the one who could lead the party to wrest power from them, hence the deliberate calls for the NDC to vote for a different person as flagbearer.
Former President Mahama pointed out that the NPP were scared of him and having sleepless nights anytime they heard his name which was the reason why they kept telling the NDC to bring a fresh person and queried whether they were the ones the tell the NDC what it should do.
