Make gender inclusion a business priority – Telecel

TELECEL Ghana has called for gender inclusion to be made a core business priority, rather than being treated as a series of one-off initiatives, to ensure sustainable progress for women in leadership.
The company’s External Affairs Director, Komla Buami, made the call when he joined a panel discussion at the 10th anniversary edition of the Executive Women’s Network (EWN) in Accra.
The EWN@10 Conference & Expo, held on the theme: ‘A Decade of Leadership, A Future Toward Holistic Impact’, brought together policymakers, executives and entrepreneurs to reflect on a decade of progress in women’s leadership and explore strategies to accelerate gender equity.
The conference featured panel discussions and exhibitions centred on three key pillars: Self & Family, Career, and Legacy.
Moderated by broadcaster Bernard Avle, the panel discussion, themed: ‘Beyond Good Intentions: What Moves and Sustains Women in Leadership’, featured Mr Buami, Sheila Minka-Premo and Mavis Owusu-Gyamfi.
Mr Buami said women’s advancement should be embedded in organisational systems and processes rather than relying solely on individual champions.
He said sustainable progress required organisations to create consistent pathways for women to develop and thrive in the workplace.
Drawing on Telecel Ghana’s experience, he highlighted initiatives aimed at supporting women’s career progression, including targets for female representation, the Female Engineering Student Scholarship Programme (FESSP) and the Telecel Reconnect Programme.
He said such interventions were designed to create opportunities for women to develop their careers and support their return to the workforce after career breaks.
The participation of Telecel Ghana in the EWN anniversary event reflected the company’s commitment to promoting an inclusive workplace where talent could flourish irrespective of gender.
Through initiatives focused on career development, succession planning and workforce re-entry, the company said it continued to contribute to building a more diverse and sustainable leadership landscape.
The Executive Women’s Network is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to inspiring, empowering and supporting women in senior management and executive positions.
Founded by female leaders, the network seeks to advance women’s leadership across Africa through mentorship, career development and professional networking.
As the organisation marked its 10th anniversary, participants stressed the importance of moving beyond good intentions to practical and lasting measures that enable more women to lead, succeed and inspire the next generation.
