New GCU Vice Chancellor pays courtesy call on Okyenhene

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Garden City University (GCU), Professor Eric K. Ofori, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Kyebi, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, at his palace in Kyebi in the Eastern Region.
The visit, which was undertaken with members of the university’s management, was to formally introduce the Vice Chancellor, a native of Kyebi — to the Okyenhene and to invite him to his investiture scheduled for July 9, 2026.
Professor Ofori, a former Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, was recently appointed to head GCU, located at Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the Okyenhene and his traditional council, Prof. Ofori expressed appreciation for the chief’s longstanding support.
He explained that, as a son of the area, it was important to formally present himself upon assuming office and to personally extend the invitation to his investiture.
Receiving the delegation, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II expressed confidence in Prof. Ofori’s ability to lead the university successfully. He said he was optimistic that the new Vice Chancellor would meet expectations and further enhance the image of the institution.
The Okyenhene urged him to protect the strong reputation he had built in academia and to apply his experience effectively in his new role.
He also cautioned him against the lure of material gain that could undermine his integrity. He observed that it took courage and character to remain honest, even in modest circumstances, while others amassed wealth through dishonest means.
Osagyefuo Ofori Panin II emphasised that strong character remained the best defence against wrongdoing, enabling leaders to withstand temptation and navigate challenges without compromising their values.
