Non-profit Organisation to hold 4-day photo exhibition in Keta

THE Images of Keta Foundation, a Non-profit Organisation, will during the Easter of 2026 organise a four-day photo exhibition dubbed: ‘Images of Keta’ to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the town.

The exhibition, from Good Friday, April 3 to Easter Monday, April 6 at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall, is aimed at showcasing the history of the old Keta district (which covered practically the whole of Southern Volta Region).

A statement issued by the Images of Keta Foundation and copied to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said the programme would cover not just events, activities, buildings, monuments but also people whose work and efforts had put Keta on the world map from the early contacts with Europe through colonial days till the 1980s when due to sea erosion, Keta became a pale shadow of its former glory.

“The past glory of Keta, through its hardworking personalities (fishermen, traders, farmers, teachers, goldsmiths, drivers, shop owners, chemists, doctors, nurses, physician assistants, lawyers, judges, security personnel—soldiers, police, prison officers, kete weavers/merchants, priests, priestesses), will among others be on display,” the foundation said.

The statement also highlighted that the exhibition, which will be held annually, not only aims to tell Keta’s history in pictures but also help to inspire present and future generations to work at bringing back the glorious days of Keta.

“With such a wonderful array of personalities who toiled to put the town and district’s name on the world map, nobody can fail to appreciate Keta’s worth and hence get inspiration to help make Keta great again if not greater. Keta, the cosmopolitan town and district, attracted people from all over in its glory days. Like a magnet it drew people to itself from Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East (mostly Syria and Lebanon), and of course West Africa, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Liberia and Sierra Leone among others. Memories of these human interactions are found in their many descendants who call Keta home,” the statement narrated.

Furthermore, the statement said Images of Keta Foundation is made up of a couple of inspired and committed individuals whose sole aim is to remind all, especially the indigenes of Keta town and old district, about its glorious past and the need to work hard at returning to it in various endeavours just like in the past.
