NPC, WANEP condemn shooting at Nyankpala, other locations
The National Peace Count (NPC), the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP), and other partners in the Election Situation Room, have condemned the shooting incident in Nyankpala, in the Northern Region.
They acknowledged the confirmed arrest of four individuals by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the incident, which resulted in one death and one injury.
In a statement issued in Accra, the NPC expressed worry about any violence, killings and injuries that occurred during the just ended elections.
The statement also conveyed condolences to the families of the victims in Nyankpala and other areas affected by this tragic electoral violence.
The NPC reiterated its condemnation of the use of fire arms in the electoral process across the country.
The statement further noted that at the signing of the 4th Presidential Decision Peace Pact in Accra on November 28, 2024, all political parties pledged to foster peace and stability before, during and after the elections.
“We urged all political parties and supporters to keep to the commitment their party leaders made in the interests of democracy and in the interests of a peaceful and stable Ghana,” the Peace Council revealed.
The statement urged called on all Electoral Commission personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity, and asked the public to exercise restraint, and respect law and order
