The La Dadekotopon New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary primary over the weekend elected Mr Joseph Addo, driver of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the parliamentary candidate to contest the seat on the ticket of the party on December 7, 2024.
Mr Addo secured 664 votes to beat his contender, the Municipal Chief Executive of La Dadekotopon, Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, who had 555 votes out of the 1,221 total votes cast.
“This is victory for the constituency and the party at large. It is important for us to work together to ensure victory for the party in the upcoming elections,” he stated in his victory speech.
He added that he was looking forward to becoming the next Member of Parliament for the area and essentially regain the seat for the party.
The ruling NPP lost the La Dadekotopon seat in 2020 to incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Rita Naa Odoley Sowah who retained the seat for the opposition.
Mr Addo expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him to be elected as the new parliamentary candidate to lead them towards the 2024 elections.
The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NPP, Daniel Odarlai Parker, described the exercise as one of the most transparent and decent elections in the area.
Meanwhile, SAMUEL AGBEWODE reports from KADJEBI that the NPP in the Akan Constituency of the Oti Region elected a 48 – year- old private legal practitioner, Mr Tapha Tassah, in a parliamentary primary over the weekend to contest in the 2024 general election.
Mr Tassah polled 316 votes to beat his main challenger, Mr Rabiu Awal, the Akan Constituency Chairman of the NPP who got 296 votes out of the 612 total votes cast.
The parliamentary primary became necessary for the NPP following the sudden demise of the former Parliamentary Candidate for the Akan Constituency, Alhaji Rashid Bawa, who was also the Ghana Ambassador to Nigeria. He was buried about two weeks ago.
The Kadjebi District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Justice Odame-Frempong, who supervised and declared Mr Tassah the winner, expressed satisfaction about the peaceful manner the delegates conducted themselves.
Mr Tassah, in his victory speech, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him, and said his victory at the poll would ensure that the NPP wins back the seat from the National Democratic Congress for the first time in the history of the constituency.
The Oti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr Jonathan Akpabey, said Mr Tassah’s victory at the by-election was an indication that the party was going into the 2024 general election fully prepared to win both parliamentary and presidential votes.
