According to a statement from the GNFS Eastern Region Public Relations Office, the crash occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and involved a Kia Rhino and a MAN Diesel truck.

Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after reports that a person was trapped in the Kia Rhino.

Using extrication equipment, the GNFS crew worked to free the trapped occupant from the mangled vehicle. The casualty was later rescued and rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.

In total, five people sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident and are receiving medical care.

The GNFS also confirmed that a male pedestrian died on the spot after reportedly being knocked down during the crash.

Both the Kia Rhino and the MAN Diesel truck sustained extensive damage.

Authorities say the circumstances leading to the accident are currently under investigation.

The GNFS has urged motorists to exercise caution on the Accra–Kumasi Highway, especially as traffic volumes remain high.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety on one of Ghana’s busiest highways.
