Palestinians will continue to fight for their freedom, dignity – Ambassador

Palestinians will continue their struggle until the nation is free from oppression and attack from Israel, the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdalfatah Ahmed Khalil Alsattari, has stated.

He said despite the attack on Gaza and West Bank, Palestine would continue to fight for their freedom and dignity.

The Ambassador stated this on Friday at a candlelight protest in Accra organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, a global movement advocating for Palestinian rights through political and civil action, in collaboration with the Socialist Movement of Ghana, a pan-Africanist organisation campaigning for social justice and solidarity with oppressed peoples.

The candlelight protest was held in memory of Palestinian journalists killed in the conflict, and to highlight what organisers described as an ongoing campaign of repression against the Palestinian people.

He expressed concern over the killings of more than 200 Palestinian journalists by Israeli security forces in the last two years, describing it as an attempt to silence the truth.

“Since 700 days ago, they have killed 279 of our journalists. Israel, when they killed the journalist, wanted to kill the truth. The Israeli occupation wants to continue the genocide against my people. They destroyed 80 per cent of our housing, bombed schools, universities, hospitals, mosques, and churches in Gaza. This is genocide,” he said.

Ambassador Alsattari reassured his people of global support, noting: “To our children in Gaza, you are not alone, the Ghanaian people stand with you. We know that Palestine will be free one day, and we strongly believe that my country will be free.”

The Chairman of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Ghana, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr, commended the resilience of the Palestinian people and underscored the solidarity of Ghanaians in their struggle.

“Our message is loud and clear: no matter what the Israeli occupation forces do, with the assistance of their masters in Washington, Bonn, London, Paris, and elsewhere, we shall continue the struggle of resistance until final victory,” he declared.

Mr Pratt added that the candlelight protest was not only to honour the memory of the journalists who lost their lives but also to reaffirm the global call for justice.

A member of the BDS Movement in Ghana, the local chapter of a global campaign that seeks to hold Israel accountable through non-violent means, Lyla Adwan-Kamara, in her remarks accused Israel of committing war crimes by deliberately targeting journalists, civilians, and medical facilities in Gaza.

She said Palestinians were being starved, bombed, and confined to a narrow strip of land, with even attempts to grow food met with deadly reprisals, adding that civilians of all ages and professions were being targeted.

Adwan-Kamara cited last week’s strike on Nassar Hospital in Southern Gaza, which killed at least 20 people, including five journalists, and injured 50 others, among them critically ill patients.

She described the strike as a violation of the Geneva Convention and an example of Israel’s “double tap” strikes, often justified by branding victims as terrorists.
