The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The suspects are Emmanuel Amponsah alias “Vandam”, 29, Christopher Seyiri alias “Cross and Die”, 47, Bashiru Ibrahim, 20, Thomas Odoom alias “Wale”, 30, and Isaac Quayeson alias “Last Burial”.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 20, 2026, at about 8 p.m., when some armed men attacked a gold-buying shop at Agona Fie and shot the owner in the chest.
Kobina was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations, including an examination of CCTV footage, identified Amponsah as the alleged leader of the gang.
The police said Amponsah was arrested on August 21, 2026, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta, where a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
He subsequently became ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Seyiri, Ibrahim and Odoom within the Agona Nkwanta area.
Quayeson was later arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
A search of his residence resulted in the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, the police said Quayeson identified Amponsah as the person who shot and killed Kobina. He also identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The five suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations as efforts continue to apprehend other accomplices believed to be connected to the robbery and murder.
