Police thank God for COP Yaagy’s 33 years service

The Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyapong, has called on Ghanaians to be disciplined in all aspects of their lives.

He said a lot of things were happening in the country as a result of indiscipline.

“If we were to instill discipline things would work in the country,” he added.

He said this at a thanksgiving service organised for Commissioner of Police (COP) (rtd) Yaagy Akuribah, Director-General of National Patrols Department (NPD) at the Saint Joseph the worker Catholic Church at Akuse in the Eastern Region on Sunday.

The programme was to thank God for COP Yaagy Akuribah’s 33 years of service in the Ghana Police Service.

It was attended by members of the Police Management Board led by COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director-General of Police Administration, clergy, friends, family and traditional rulers.

Most Rev. Agyapong said there was indiscipline on the roads and called on the police to let people “face their action.”

He said when people faced their actions there would be discipline at all times.

The Director of Police Religious Affairs, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Very Rev Father George Arthur, in a sermon on the theme “My soul give praise to the Lord” stressed the need for all to give thanks and praise God in all things.

He said every human was an image of God and must be treated equally, with dignity and respect no matter the race, colour and gender.

The director urged all to revive their faith in God and also trust in him.

He expressed worry about gaysim, value for power, politics and wealth, bribery and corruption, insensitivity, lawlessness, favouritism replacing policies affecting the progressing of the nation.

He urged Ghanaians  not to be silent about the truth, but speak against negative practice.

“If you do not speak about the truth today to ensure change, your children and general public will suffer for your silence,” he added.

He urged all, especially the youth to prepare for their retirement.

COP (rtd) Akuribah in a remark commended the Police Administration, family and friends for their dedication and support to him during in his work in the Service.

As part of the occasion COP Yaagy Akuribah donated an unspecified amount of money to support the construction of the church.

The former Director-General was the Regional Police Commander for Eastern, Western and Commanding Officer for National Police Training School.

A citation was also presented to COP Akuribah (rtd) by the church.
