The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Friday inaugurated a computer laboratory at Kaleo in the Nadwoli Kaleo District of the Upper West.
The facility, known as the Yamoransa Model (YM) Lab 14, would provide a conducive learning environment for at least 3,439 students in the Kaleo community.
The 36-seater Educational lab facility was financed by Mr Bagbin in collaboration with Helping Africa Foundation (HAF), as part of his commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education in the district.

The Maker Space installed as part of the facility, included a 3D printer, augmented/virtual reality system and other robotics equipment.
Mr Bagbin stated that the facility was expected to serve as a centre for modern technology and resource to boost students’ innovation, smart learning, creativity, research and leadersh
which was being offered for free, would ensure quality teaching, learning and research amongst students, teachers, and community members.
“It is free for the students, Lab 14 is more than a physical structure, It is a symbol of our shared vision and determination, this Lab is going to make a great change in the lives of our young generations, this is a lab where dreams will be nurtured and Ideas will be cultivated,” the Speaker indicated.
He urged the facility management committee to effectively maintain the lab and allow the students to use it without any restrictions and charge.
In furtherance, Mr Bagbin noted that Yamoransa Model Lab aims to provide students with an opportunity to expand their education on STEAM by gaining hands-on experience with the theories they were taught.
The President of HAF, Dr Deborah Rose (PhD.), highlighted that the main purpose of introducing the Yamoransa Model Labs was to promote the learning of ICT in the rural areas of Ghana.
She said the lab with a maker space and conference room would enable students with practical skills in their learning of STEAM, thereby building their capacity to become problem-solvers and better positioning themselves in their future careers.
Dr Rose revealed that the HAF and its partners had put in place measures to assist the beneficiary communities of the Yamoransa Model Labs in order to manage and sustain the facilities.
The project is being managed by IMPLEMENTERS, a project management non-profit firm, with its technology partners, TECHAiDE, who have over 10 years’ experience in technology projects globally.
