 Volta Regional Minister woos investors

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has implored investors to take advantage of the numerous investment opportunities in the region by visiting and exploring available areas such as agribusiness and industrialisation for the mutual benefit of the people.

Mr Gunu said his development agenda for the region was to promote agriculture, agribusiness, health, education, industrialisation and re-construction of roads, saying the establishment of factories in the region was crucial in job creation and reduction of the teaming youth unemployment.

At an engagement with journalists in Ho over the weekend, Mr Gunu noted that as part of the development agenda, the Ho-Denu road re-construction would be one of the first projects to be executed in view of the economic importance of the road in order to facilitate rapid development of the region.

He said the vital role the media played in the development drive of the region over the years could not be overemphasised, and promised to work closely with them to enable him achieve the set development plans he had for the region, hence the decision to meet with the journalist, saying his doors were always opened for constructive criticism that would promote development.

Mr Gunu futher outlined that the immediate problem to tackle was the water problem facing Ho and its environs, which called for urgent steps to procure the spoilt pump which was replaced with a moulded pump which capacity was low and could only provide eleven thousand cubic litres of water daily, while demand for water was thirty thousand cubic litres of water daily.

He noted that the seriousness of the water situation in the Ho Municipality was affecting socio economic activities of the people which called for external assistance to supply the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for a new pump to ensure adequate supply of water to the people, since the lack of water in the daily life of the people had health and cultural implications on the lives of the people.

Mr Gunu stressed his preparedness to work closely with stakeholders, including traditional authorities to enable him to facilitate rapid development of the region, and make the region attractive, particularly for the youth to stay and work.

Mr Gunu expressed concern about lack of maintenance culture of state facilities, and called for change in attitude, saying the situation had moved from bad to worse, citing the Volta Regional Minister’s residence where the buildings were left over the past eight years without renovation, which left windows and doors broken and currently not habitable.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr Emmanuel Agbaxode, assured the Regional Minister, who is a journalist by profession, that he would enjoy maximum cooperation of the journalists in the region to enable him deliver on his mandate
