Wa East District youth parliament inaugurated

The Wa East District Youth Parliament has been inaugurated to offer the youth the needed platform to engage with duty bearers in ensuring speedy growth and the socio-economic development of the district.

It is expected to serve as a common voice in tackling key development issues, promote accountability, probity and transparency towards nation building, ensure sustainable relationship between youth groups and governance structures in decision-making process and to influence development outcomes among others in the district.

The inauguration was under the auspices of the National Youth Authority (NYA) to ensure the government’s continued show of determination, dedication and commitment towards youth development through enhanced budgetary allocation to the authority for effective and efficient delivery of its youth centered mandate.

In his inaugural address, Archibald Donkoh, the Upper West Regional Acting Director of NYA, indicated that the youth parliament would be used to tackle issues that affected the development of youth directly namely, teenage pregnancies, security issues, falling standards of education, improvement in health and drug abuse among others.

“NYA has the vision of becoming a unique public sector youth development service delivery organisation that is responsive to the empowerment needs of the youth, while ensuring their access to national development investment opportunities.

“NYA in the Upper West Region looks forward to providing relevant and conducive environment that defines, assists and supports the implementation of effective and efficient frontline youth empowerment practices and focusing on young people’s participation in the socio-economic development of their various districts,” Mr Donkor observed.

Rahaman Mumbashir, the Assistant Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) Coordinator for Wa East, urged the youth to discipline themselves in whatever they would be doing to project a good leadership temperament for the future.

“Know what is right and endeavour to do what is right at the right time always, and that will indicate how disciplined you are to lead in the future,” he entreated. –GNA
